Volunteering- It takes a village!

Thank you to our current and future Coatesville Area School District volunteers. With your help and support, we are able to provide our students with a great education and enjoyable school environment!

To maintain a safe and healthy environment, background clearances are mandatory for both staff and volunteers. We love having families volunteer! If you are interested in volunteering in any of our CASD schools, please complete the necessary background checks. Once you receive the various approval, send them to your student's school. You may email, mail or drop them off with the front office. Keep the originals as they are good for five years(60 months).

Pennsylvania State requirements for volunteers

School volunteer requirements are currently under review at the state level. In July of 2023, the General Assembly passed House Bill 1276 updates were made for volunteer and employee clearances.

CASD School Volunteer Policy #916

Those who have not lived in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for the past ten years will also need to fill out a federal criminal history check in addition to the above documentation. Volunteer is responsible for the cost of the Federal Criminal History Report by IdentoGo. The fingerprinting fee ($23.25) is due at the time of your appointment. Use the PA Service Code 1KG6ZJ. FBI Background checks completed for volunteer purposes cannot be used for employment. You will receive this clearance by mail a few weeks after your prints are taken.

As a primary form of picture identification, a state-issued driver’s license may be presented by an applicant when being fingerprinted. For those applicants without a driver’s license, a state identification card may be used.

CASD School Volunteer Policy #916 also requires proof of a recent Tuberculosis examination from your family physician.

Thankfully, these are good for five years(60 months).

The PA Criminal Background check of charge and can be done online here.

Also, free of charge and can be done online here.

The tuberculosis (TB) test can be done at you local doctor's office or CVS Minute Clinic, for example.

The Federal Criminal History Report is only required if you have lived in Pennsylvania for less than 10 years.

The annual waiver is a document you can print and fill out on your own for each school year. You can request a printed copy from your student's school.

Once your clearances are all in please keep a copy of each for your records and send a copy to the school(s) you intend to volunteer. These certifications will be good for the next five years (60 months) and will travel with you as your child moves from one school level to the next.

Already have your clearances? Awesome.

If a CASD school already has your clearances, and they are less than 60 months old, as well as proof of TB examination please verify with your student's school secretary or principal.

Again, we thank you for giving us your time and energy. We value all the help that volunteers can provide. Should you have any further questions, visit the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services FAQ page or contact the office at your student's school.
