Samuel Horace Scott
Nicknamed the “grand old man of medicine,” Dr. Samuel Horace Scott was a civic and church leader, and philanthropist. Born in 1865 to parents Amos S. and Mary L. McPherson Scott, he attended and graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1889, and subsequently served Coatesville by practicing medicine for 50 years.
Active in the community, Dr. Scott served as president of the Coatesville Rotary Club, as Master of the Coatesville Lodge #564 and as Senior Warden of Trinity Episcopal Church. In commemoration of his 54 years and 6 months of service as a member of the Coatesville School Board, the district named it’s secondary school “Scott Senior High School."
